Buddy, I wanted a review copy of my own to read. I love any book about animals especially if it does not have a sad story. Then poor Buddy sat on my bedside table staring at me. I have no reason for not opening up the book, it just took awhile for the cover to get cracked.
One I read the first paragraph I was hooked. Author McGrory is pretty funny. Funnier yet is Buddy's story. It is not often that a grown mad is outshone by a rooster. McGrory ends up dating his vet and eventually marrying her and becoming step-dad to two young girls and a rooster. Initially he is beyond skeptical of the crowing bird and is not too excited to be sharing a home with him. The same can be said for Buddy. He realizes that McGrory is not too fond of him and lets him know who the man of the house is. Suddenly it is man vs rooster. The rooster always wins cock a cock a dooing his way through the house where he rules the roost.
What McGrory never expects are the lessons that Buddy teaches him. Buddy is loved by everyone, his wife, her daughters and the neighborhoods. Cars come driving by to see the cute little rooster. Through Buddy McGrory learns the lessons of love, patience and raising a family.
This is a great easy read that will leave a smile on your face.
